Mission Statement
The Maurer Foundation for Breast Health Education (TMF) is a 501(c)(3)
organization founded in 1995 by Virginia Maurer, M.D. Dr. Maurer,
a breast surgeon, recognized the need among her patients for a better
understanding of breast cancer—its symptoms, diagnosis, treatments,
cure rates, and most importantly, the prevention of breast cancer
and its relationship to a lifetime of good health practices. The Maurer
Foundation is an independent organization with a volunteer Board
of Directors and a small professional staff. Dr. Maurer currently
serves on the Medical Advisory Panel.
The Maurer Foundation’s mission is dedicated to educating
women of all ages about prevention and early detection of breast
cancer. Addressing women at schools, in community organizations,
places of business and through the media, the foundation’s
up-to-date educational programs are aimed at dispelling myths and
allaying fears about breast cancer while filling the knowledge gap
that exists about maintaining breast health.
The Maurer Foundation:
- is unique in that it focuses exclusively on early detection
and preventive lifestyle education.
- imparts an intergenerational and multicultural philosophy
in its programs.
- forges strong partnerships and develops strategic collaborations
with other agencies.
- has educated over 130,000 people directly and countless others
through public education initiatives
